- PPC and Google Content Network – why I keep them apart
It can be tiresome doing keyword research on your content; especially when the post takes 30 minutes to write but requires 40 minutes of keyword research to be succesful. But there’s an excellent SEO tool sitting directly under your nose (probably) and you’re not using it.
Google Accounts Web History
That’s right, you. If you’ve got a Google account and remain signed in to it, Google records every search you make. This means that you can go back in time and look at items you’ve been searching for.
Okay so why is that helpful?
Because keyword research is an attempt to emulate real searches – whereas you were actually searching for something.
How can I use this as an SEO tool?
Well supposing you were searching for something within the niche of your website, found the information you needed and did something with it. Maybe you found the advice to be really poor and found a better way of doing it? Either way you’ve got something to say on the topic. What you entered into Google was the question and you’ve now got the answer (provided it’s your own answer, don’t just steal other people’s content/ideas and claim them to be your own). So if you write that answer into a post and publish it using your search query as the title = SEO win.
Evidence
It works especially well with very specific queries. For example I recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop but couldn’t get any sound. I searched for hours to find the proper solution but it wasn’t overly apparent. I fiddled around on my laptop and finally got it working. Obviously I published the solution on this website with the question I was asking Google as the title. This was an instant, quantifiable SEO win.
Numbers
On the day it was published that article received 28 Google visitors. The following day it received 65. Since then it has been averaging around 70 search engine visitors each day (which isn’t a lot overall but good to a single piece of content).
So ask yourself; is there anything you’ve been searching for that you can publish a solution to? This saves you the time of keyword research and the content should be easy to write too. However it can deliver decent traffic for the future without any effort on your part (after all, an extra 70 visitors a day doesn’t hurt anyone).
